Beechwood created The Scotch Whisky Experience website for the start of the summer season.

The judges of the ASVA Marketing Awards, which are held as part of the annual two-day Autumn ASVA Conference in November, wereimpressed by the website’s excellent information, ease of navigation, quick downloads and the ability to sustain the users’ interest.

The entries for Best Website were judged using the following criteria:

1. Search engine functions
2. Design and functionality of site
3. Innovative use of technology to increase business
4. Ease of navigation
5. Quality of information
6. Download time

In the website categories, design and functionality, quality of information and the innovative use of technology to increase business and generate sales were among the prime requirements for a successful entry.

The judges commented, ‘We have seen some very well designed websites that incorporate useful and innovative functions, such as increased use of foreign languages, opportunity to sign up for newsletter, online ticketing and scrolling news features’.

Presenting the awards, ASVA Chairman Paul Jennings said, ‘The standard of entries in the web design category was higher than ever this year, and demonstrates that successful visitor attractions are those than can up their game and respond to the challenges presented by an increasingly competitive business environment. Encouraging improved marketing and promotion through awards such as this is just one of the ways ASVA supports visitor attractions throughout the country.’

The Scotch Whisky Experience is situated on the Royal Mile below Edinburgh Castle and offers unique insight into the world of Scotch Whisky and whisky tasting. The venue also has a fine dining restaurant, Amber Restaurant, as well as corporate and meeting facilities.
